Breast Reconstruction

Rebuild Confidence Through Breast Reconstruction

Restoring balance, shape, and wholeness after breast loss

Losing part or all of one or both breasts after mastectomy can be emotionally complex. Breast reconstruction offers a path to restore not only physical appearance but also self-image. At Allure Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, Dr. Percy Lo provides personalized breast reconstruction procedures designed to recreate natural-looking breasts and rebuild confidence following cancer treatment or preventive mastectomy.

Whether restoring volume, symmetry, or the nipple-areolar complex, breast reconstruction is always performed with compassion, precision, and the goal of helping you feel whole again.

What Is Breast Reconstruction?

A highly customizable procedure to restore your breasts and confidence

Breast reconstruction is a surgical process that restores the shape and look of your breast(s) after a mastectomy or lumpectomy. Every reconstruction is unique. Dr. Lo works closely with you to determine the right timing, method, and aesthetic goals.

The procedure can involve:

  • Creating a breast mound where tissue was removed

  • Restoring balance between both breasts in size and shape

  • Reconstructing the nipple and areola if desired

Depending on your preferences, reconstruction may be done at the time of mastectomy (immediate) or delayed until after other treatments are complete.

Surgical Techniques and Options

Two main approaches—tailored to your body and goals

Breast reconstruction can be performed using one of two primary strategies:

  • Expander-to-Implant Reconstruction

    • A tissue expander is placed to gradually stretch skin and muscle

    • After several weeks, the expander is replaced with a permanent implant

    • This method is common for patients with limited donor tissue

  • Tissue Flap Reconstruction

    • Uses your own tissue (from the abdomen, back, or thigh) to recreate the breast

    • Tissue remains attached to its original blood supply or is reconnected microsurgically

    • Often preferred for a more natural feel and look

Nipple reconstruction and areolar tattooing may be added in a later stage to complete the cosmetic outcome.

Are You a Candidate for Breast Reconstruction?

Who qualifies—and what you can do if you’re not quite ready

Breast reconstruction may be appropriate if you:

  • Have had a mastectomy or lumpectomy, or are planning one

  • Are in good general health and able to undergo surgery

  • Have a realistic understanding of the outcomes and recovery

  • Desire reconstruction for yourself, not due to outside expectations

Dr. Lo will review your full medical history, discuss your cancer treatment plan (if applicable), and help you decide when and how reconstruction should be performed. If you're not a candidate for surgery right away, he will guide you through your options for timing and preparation.

Recovery and Results

A step-by-step process focused on comfort and outcome

Recovery depends on the type of reconstruction performed:

  • Expander/implant procedures typically require multiple stages

  • Flap-based reconstructions may have a longer initial recovery, but fewer follow-ups

  • You may need 1–3 weeks off from work and up to 6 weeks to return to strenuous activity

Post-operative care includes wearing support garments, managing swelling, and attending follow-ups to monitor healing. Dr. Lo and his team are with you every step of the way.

Final results may take several months to fully develop as swelling resolves and tissues settle. While breasts reconstructed with implants or flaps will not have the same sensation as before, they can look natural and restore a sense of femininity and self-esteem.
